GENOPOLE
EN LIEN AVEC LA SOCIÉTÉ
• Chaque année, Genopole renouvelle sa participation à la Fête de la Science en partenariat avec l’Université d’Évry. En 2018, près de 3 000 visiteurs ont participé à des visites de laboratoires, animations ludiques, conférences, expositions... autour du thème de l’année « Science et numérique - La révolution » mais aussi des grands sujets du biocluster.
• Genopole est membre fondateur et contributeur actif de Sciences Essonne. Fondée à l’initiative du Conseil départemental de l’Essonne, l’association rassemble des acteurs de la culture scientifique et technique d’horizons divers. Genopole coordonne avec Les Petits Débrouillards un Rond-point des Sciences organisé par l’association les 18 et 19 mai, et conduit un partenariat avec le Centre commercial Évry 2 pour toucher un très large public.
• Informer en toute transparence, répondre aux questionnements éthiques, favoriser le débat sont des missions que Genopole assure en organisant des moments d’échanges libres dans un lieu convivial : les Cafés du gène. En 2018, un Café du gène ouvre le dialogue sur les thèmes du livre des 20 ans “Le génie des gènes” avec les auteurs Pierre Tambourin, fondateur et directeur général de Genopole jusqu’en 2017, et la journaliste Laurianne Geoffroy : quelle révolution préparent les biotechnologies ? Quelles avancées promettent-elles ? Quelles questions soulèvent-elles ?
• Le 3 avril, Jean-Marc Grognet intervient aux Rendez-vous de l'éthique d'Évry, aux côtés du physicien Étienne Klein et du directeur général de Google France, Sébastien Missoffe, sur la question "Le digital est-il en train de nous échapper ?".
• Susciter l’intérêt des jeunes pour les sciences et montrer que les métiers scientifiques sont accessibles sont les objectifs d’actions pédagogiques que Genopole dédie aux publics scolaires. Ainsi, en 2018, est conçue avec l’association l’Arbre des connaissances et le laboratoire lSSB une animation à destination de collégiens évryens retraçant l’histoire de Genopole au sein d’Évry Ville nouvelle, puis les impliquant dans un jeu de rôle interactif sur la biologie de synthèse et ses enjeux.
GENOPOLE AND SOCIETY
Des questions sociétales accompagnent les progrès des biotechnologies et les promesses qu'elles portent. Depuis sa création, Genopole organise des rendez-vous réguliers pour partager les savoirs et instaurer un dialogue entre science et société.
Biotechnologies and the promise they hold raise nonetheless a number of societal questions. Since its creation, Genopole has regularly organized public meetings to share knowledge and ensure a dialog between science and society.
• Enfin, Genopole édite en 2018 une version modernisée et attractive de la plaquette grand public. Le document explique l’ADN et le rôle des gènes en textes et infographies, présente les grandes avancées réalisées par les acteurs du biocluster et sensibilise aux métiers scientifiques et à l’entrepreneuriat.
• Every year, Genopole renews its participation in the Science Festival in partnership with the University of Évry. The 2018 event drew close to 3,000 visitors, mostly families and youth from Évry- Courcouronnes and neighboring communities. At the biocluster and the university, they participated in lab visits, fun educational activities, conferences, expositions and more, all articulating around the theme of the event, "Science and Informatics - the Revolution" and Genopole's major subjects.
• Genopole is a founding member and active contributor to Sciences Essonne, an initiative of the Essonne Departmental Council uniting a diversity of actors in scientific and technological culture. Genopole helped Les Petits Débrouillards (an association to encourage scientific curiosity) organize a "Roundabout of Science" held 18–19 May in partnership with the Évry 2 shopping center to reach a wide public.
• Genopole organizes events called Gene Cafés, i.e., get-togethers in relaxed environments (bars, restaurants, etc.) to ensure its missions of informing with transparency, responding to ethical questions and favoring the science-society debate. In 2018, a Gene Café held in the presence of Pierre Tambourin, founder and former CEO of Genopole, and the scientific journalist Laurianne Geoffroy tackled the subjects discussed in the book they wrote for the 20th anniversary of Genopole, "The Ingenuity of Genes". The event addressed such questions as what revolution is biotech preparing? What advances will biotech bring to our daily lives, our health, our environment? What issues does biotech raise?
• On 3 April, in the company of Physicist Étienne Klein and Google France Managing Director Sébastien Missoffe, Jean-Marc Grognet participated in an Évry Ethics Meeting on the question, "Is informatics escaping from our control?".
• Encouraging the interest of youth for the sciences and showing
them the scientific careers available to them are the objectives of Genopole's educational actions for secondary school children. For example, in 2018, Genopole joined with the association Arbre des connaissances ("Tree of Knowledge") and the lSSb laboratory to present the history of Genopole in Évry to the city's secondary school students, who, thereafter, enjoyed a role-playing session to discover synthetic biology and its issues. Genopole also participated in a MIPOP (an organization for innovation in learning and professional orientation) event to introduce students in the Grigny priority education zone to scientific careers.
• And Finally, Genopole updated its general public brochure to modernize it and make it more attractive. Using texts and graphics,
the document explains the role of DNA and genes, presents the advances made at Genopole, and heightens awareness of scientific 45 careers and entrepreneurship.
