Market awareness and exploratory missions Genopole launched the “Visa4biotech” morning events with the primary objective of heightening the international awareness of the biocluster’s citizens. These events provide the businesses with concrete information on the regulatory issues (intellectual property, patents, etc.) and growth opportunities for the fields of biotechnology and health in regions or countries with emerging and/or particularly innovative markets. The first two Visa4biotechs were on India and Japan. HOST INTERNATIONAL DELEGATIONS Being the gold-standard biocluster in France and a leader in genomics in Europe make Genopole a privileged destination for science, technology and innovation specialists and dignitaries visiting France. In 2019, Genopole welcomed a number of delegations: Canadian: District 3, a Quebecois incubator that reached out to Genopole concerning accompaniment within its new structures for business and academic research. American: ❚ Research Triangle Park and the North Carolina Biotech Center, with the objective of building upon the first meeting initiated by the American liaison and presenting the clusters’ respective activities. ❚ The University of Alabama in Huntsville, in association with the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, to work together toward academic, research and industrial mobility. Brazilian: ANPROTEC, an association of research parks and incubators. South Korean: KIAT, the equivalent of Bpifrance in South Korea. Chinese: Tus Holdings and other investors. Genopole welcomed the cooperation counsellor from the Chinese Embassy in France and the mayor of Wuhan in the context of its partnership with Biolake signed in 2018. Thai: A delegation accompanied by the scientific cooperation attaché of the French Embassy in Thailand. Estonian: Meeting with President of the Republic of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid accompanied by a number of innovative Estonian businesses. PARTICIPATE IN LARGE INTERNATIONAL EVENTS Genopole was present for a number of key events, including: ❚ BIO US in Philadelphia ❚ JP Morgan Biotech Showcase, San Francisco ❚ BIO Europe in Hamburg ❚ BIO Japan, Yokohama... In 2019, Genopole notably strengthened its presence in Asian events, illustrating its determination to penetrate this market and identify opportunities therein. CREATE TARGETED PARTNERSHIPS WITH BIOCLUSTERS OF INTEREST Partnerships with chosen, foreign competi- tiveness clusters hold strategic importance for the development of leading-edge research at Genopole and for the international renown of the biocluster’s companies. Close relations with prominent competitiveness hubs in sectors and fields defined as priorities for Genopole (computational genomics, synthetic biology, etc.) will be strengthened. SUBMIT, OBTAIN AND COORDINATE EUROPEAN PROJECTS Since 2018, Genopole has taken the steps necessary for interactions with and funding from Europe. It is furthermore accelerating its responses to those European calls for proposals that are a good fit for its sector strategies. In 2019, the GIP coordinated the submission of three projects to the European Commission. ❚ MASTCAP: To construct a European metacluster. ❚ GEN.ERA: To construct, with four other European clusters, an internationalization strategy for businesses in the genomics sector. ❚ ApogeeBio: a pilot project submitted as a part of Actions Marie-Sklodowska-Curie (AMSC Cofund) for postdoctoral allocations funding.
