As in years past, Genopole participated in the 2019 national Science Festival, entitled “La science, ça se mesure ! Oui, mais comment ?” (Sizing up science! Yes, but how?). Organized in partnership with the University of Évry and held 9–13 October, the event drew more than 2,000 visitors, who enjoyed hands-on science workshops, a conference on mathematics in the era of Big Data, interactive stands and more, all aimed at increasing the awareness of the general public and school-aged children on the diversity of measurements in science. Beyond the theme-oriented activities, lab visits, an escape game, expositions and other experiences valorized the territory’s research and innovation activities. In March 2019, Genopole also participated in Industry Week, a public event piloted by the Ministry for the Economy. The afternoon event drew about 50 secondary/ tertiary-level students and job-seekers to the Genopole Enterprises/Essonne CCI incubator to discover career opportunities in bioindustry. In July 2019, Évry-Courcouronnes received the Learning City label from UNESCO, becoming the fourth French city to join the Global Network of Learning Cities. Évry- Courcouronnes chose the theme of science, tightly tied to the identity of the territory, and will call upon the actions and competencies of Genopole, the University of Évry and other partners in that domain. Genopole joined Évry-Courcouronnes’ Learning City work group, which was created to develop new actions and expand existing ones. The Learning City label will give a new dimension to the Science Festival. MEETING GENOPOLE’S CITIZENS À LA RENCONTRE DES GÉNOPOLITAINS Comme chaque année, Genopole a renouvelé en 2019 sa participation à la Fête de la science natio- nale sur le thème « La science, ça se mesure ! Oui, mais comment ? ». La manifestation, organisée en partenariat avec l’Université d’Évry, a rassemblé du 9 au 13 octobre plus de 2 000 visiteurs. Des ateliers où expérimenter, une conférence sur les mathéma- tiques au temps du Big Data, des stands interactifs... ont sensibilisé le grand public et les publics scolaires à la diversité des mesures dans l’expérimentation scientifique. Au-delà du thème annuel, visites de laboratoires, escape game, expositions... ont valorisé les activités de recherche et d’innovation du territoire. Autre événement destiné au grand public : en mars 2019, Genopole a participé à l’opération Semaine de l’industrie, pilotée par le ministère de l’Économie, en accueillant une cinquantaine de lycéens, étudiants et demandeurs d’emploi pour un après-midi découverte des métiers de la bio-industrie à la pépinière Genopole Entreprises CCI Essonne. En juillet 2019, Évry-Courcouronnes a reçu le label « Ville apprenante » de l’Unesco, intégrant ainsi un réseau mondial et devenant la 4e Ville apprenante en France. La ville a choisi le thème de la science, forte identité du territoire, et souhaite s’appuyer sur les actions et compétences de Genopole, l’Uni- versité d’Évry et d’autres partenaires de la culture scientifique. Genopole a intégré le groupe de travail, constitué pour engager des actions nouvelles et accroître la portée des actions existantes. Une nouvelle dimension sera ainsi apportée à la Fête de la science. 37
